JSON Error Explainer (AI)

Paste JSON that will not parse. Your browser finds the exact line and column of the error, then AI explains what is wrong in plain words and shows the corrected lines. Only the few lines around the error are sent through our server to an AI provider; the rest of your JSON stays in your browser.

Uses a third-party AI provider

The error is found in your browser. To explain it, only the few lines around the error are sent through our server to an AI provider.

How to use JSON Error Explainer (AI)

  1. Paste your JSON. Paste the JSON that fails to parse, or load the sample.
  2. Explain. Click Explain error to see the line and column where it breaks.
  3. Apply the fix. Read the explanation and corrected lines, then fix your JSON.

Example

A list with a trailing comma after its last item.

JSON

{
  "name": "Ada Lovelace",
  "languages": ["English", "French",],
  "active": true
}

Where it breaks

Line 3, column 36: Illegal trailing comma before end of array

1 | {
2 |   "name": "Ada Lovelace",
3 |   "languages": ["English", "French",],
  |                                    ^
4 |   "active": true
5 | }

The AI then explains that JSON does not allow a comma after the last item and suggests removing it.

Limits
  • Documents up to 1,000,000 characters. Only the error message and up to three lines either side of the error are sent to the AI, never the whole document.
  • A daily number of AI explanations per visitor, plus an overall daily budget for the site. When either runs out, the tool still shows where the error is.
  • Needs our server and an AI provider. If either is unavailable, you still get the error position from your browser.
  • AI explanations can be wrong. Always check the suggested fix.
Privacy
Your input is sent to a third-party AI provider to generate the result.

Troubleshooting

"No AI explanation" with a daily limit message

You have used today's AI explanations. The error position is still shown; fix the line it points to, or try again when the limit resets.

"AI explanations need our server"

The site is running without its server, so only the browser check works. Use the JSON Formatter for the error position meanwhile.

The tool says the JSON is valid but your app rejects it

The JSON syntax is fine, so the problem is the data itself, such as a missing field or a wrong type. Check it against what your app expects.

Frequently asked questions

What is sent to the AI?

Only the parser error message and a few lines around the error. Your browser finds the error first, and our server cuts out that excerpt before anything goes to the AI provider. Valid JSON is never sent to the AI at all.

Which AI does it use?

A provider such as OpenAI or Anthropic, chosen by us. The AI provider processes the excerpt to write the answer; we do not store your JSON or the answer.

Is there a limit?

Each visitor gets a number of AI explanations per day, so the service stays free. The error location is always shown, even when the AI limit is reached.

Can the explanation be wrong?

Yes. AI usually gets JSON syntax errors right, but check the suggested fix. The line and column come from a real parser and are exact.
